The tradition of kite flying is very famous in the city during Makar Sankranti. This tournament, however, is organized on a very grand scale wherein a lot of clubs take part. It is usually celebrated in the month of January. The sky is full with various kinds of kites in different shapes, sizes and colours all handcrafted with attention to detail. The shops in Chowk, Aminabad and Hazratganj are full of kites. Kankawwa is the Lucknow style of kite which was perfected during the days of Nawabs.
